Every prompt inspected, every decision explained

Lucien skeleton illustration

Lucien intercepts AI traffic on your network, checks it against your policies, and allows or blocks it in under a millisecond.

Example: TLS Interception

What happens when someone sends a prompt

Lucien decrypts AI traffic with your own certificate, inspects it in hardware, and re-encrypts it on the way out. One request, end to end.

  1. 01

    A user submits a prompt

Someone types a prompt into an LLM site or calls an AI API. It leaves their device encrypted, as always.

  2. 02

    Lucien intercepts and classifies

The request passes through Lucien, is decrypted with your certificate, checked against your policies, and classified as benign, suspicious or malicious.

  3. 03

Allow or block, in under a millisecond

Benign requests are re-encrypted and forwarded. Suspicious or malicious ones are blocked or flagged, and a signed record goes to the audit log.

Policies

Your organization decides what gets through

Administrators create policies in the Lucien console and assign them to users, groups or network segments. Rules are explicit, so every decision is explainable and auditable.

Why It Matters

Deterministic, not probabilistic

Model-based guardrails produce confidence scores. Lucien produces answers: rules run in fixed time on FPGA hardware, so the same input always gets the same decision, and every decision can be reproduced for an auditor.

FAQ

Common questions about how Lucien works

No. Inspection happens in FPGA hardware in under a millisecond, which is far below what a person can notice. Users keep using the same websites and APIs they use today.

You upload your organization's certificate to the appliance during installation. Devices on your network already trust that certificate, so Lucien can decrypt traffic to AI services, inspect it, and re-encrypt it before forwarding. Traffic that isn't headed to an AI service passes through untouched.

Benign requests match no policy and pass straight through. Suspicious requests score close to a rule and are handled however your policy specifies, such as logged for review. Malicious requests clearly break a policy, such as a prompt containing patient data, and are blocked with a signed audit record.

Your organization does. Administrators create and assign policies in the Lucien console, starting from templates for HIPAA, PCI and PII. A Lucien engineer helps you build your first set during installation, remotely or on-site, and the administrator wiki at support.lucien.com documents the rest.
